The Jay Brothers Unified Resource Center is named for a man who turned his life around after he kicked a substance abuse habit. Jay Brothers died in December after a battle with cancer. New Canaan Woman Charged With Stealing From Employer NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- A New Canaan woman has been charged with stealing $8,359.80 from the Elm Street business where she worked, said New Canaan Police. She arrested Wednesday after turning herself in to police. Charged with third-degree larceny was Janet Amezquita, 40, of 9 E. Hills Drive. She was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 25. Police said they were contacted on Aug. 17 about the theft, which eventually led them to Amezquita. Buyer Beware As Stamford Woman Is Scammed On Pair of TV's STAMFORD, Conn, -- It's never a good sign after a deal when the sellers leave as quickly as possible once they have cash in hand, as a Stamford woman found out. The woman made a deal with two men who were behind her Clinton Avenue building selling televisions out of the back of their van, police said. The woman arranged to buy the televisions with sound systems for $375 but she never checked the boxes. She gave the money to the men who quickly drove away and took the boxes into her apartment.  When she opened them she only found the sound systems but no televisions, said Sgt. Simon Blanc.
