Fire Guts North Salem Shed; Lightning Strike Believed To Be Cause NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- A shed in a North Salem neighborhood was gutted by a Wednesday blaze. A homeowner, speaking with the press, believes that a lightning strike was the cause. What remained of the shed, part of a property at 36 Sugar Hill Road, included a charred frame. Croton Falls Fire Chief Jason Blauvelt spoke with reporters about the response and recalled what happened. According to Blauvelt, dispatch was at about 6:41 p.m. and the response was to the place for a report of a fully involved structure fire, which came from a homeowner. Bull & Barrel Holds Grand Opening In Southeast PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Bull & Barrel Brew Pub, a brewery in Southeast, held its grand opening, which included a ribbon cutting, on Saturday, July 5. Bull & Barrel, which is near downtown Brewster, has the distinction of being Putnam County's only brewery. It is co-owned by Mahopac resident Wendy Wulkan, who has about 15 years of restaurant owning experience, and Somers resident Rick Cipriani, who has craft beer business experience. New Castle Town Board Adopts Rosehill Condominiums' Scoping Document CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- The New Castle Town Board voted at its Tuesday, July 8, meeting to adopt the scoping document for the Rosehill proposal follow comments from the public, a video of the meeting shows. Posner, Rifkin Sworn In As Katonah-Lewisboro School Trustees CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- Scott Posner and William Rifkin, who were elected to two Katonah-Lewisboro school board seats in May, took their oaths of office on Tuesday night, July 8, at the board’s reorganizational meeting. District Clerk Kimberly Monzon administered oaths at the meeting, which was held at John Jay High School and was the first for the 2014-15 school year. Country Fair Held At Tilly Foster Farm In Southeast SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- Rides and live music were among the attractions at Tilly Foster Farm's new Country Fair, which was held over the Fourth of July weekend. The county owned farm, in Southeast, had rides ranging from a Ferris wheel to a gigantic slide, along with game booths. Former Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Officer Charged With Rape BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. -- A former officer at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility has been charged with raping an inmate. New York State Police and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced the arrest of Richard Rodriguez, a 33-year-old Brooklyn resident. He was arrested on Monday, July 7, and charged with third-degree rape, a felony. Lowey Calls For Social Security Boost For Caregivers At Mount Kisco Event MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey announced she will introduce legislation in Congress that would allow for caregivers who look after loved ones to get increased Social Security benefits at a Monday press conference at Mount Kisco Child Care Center. Southeast's Fireworks Celebration Includes Music, Dancing SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- Live music and dancing marked Southeast's annual fireworks celebration on a cool Fourth of July evening, with the finale fireworks display coming after sunset. Manhunt Underway For Burglary Suspect In New Castle Area WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- An search for a burglary suspect is under way, New Castle police announced on Saturday. State Police are involved in the search, according to the announcement, with officers, bloodhounds and aviation being used.
