Great British Olympian Named Skating Director At Stamford's Chelsea Piers STAMFORD, Conn. -- Jason Briggs, who represented Great Britain at the 1992 Winter Olympics, has been named the skating director at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford. Briggs spent nearly a decade competing at the international level as a pairs skater before ending his career representing Great Britain in the 1992 Olympics. After his competitive career, Briggs began coaching under the tutelage of national, international, world and Olympic coaches Peter Burrows and Mary Lynn Gelderman. Darien Chamber Of Commerce Plans Wine Tasting, Charity Auction DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Chamber of Commerce will host its ninth annual Wine Tasting and Charity Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at BMW of Darien. This year’s fundraiser will benefit The Depot Youth Center, YWCA Darien/Norwalk and the Darien Chamber of Commerce. The center is a nonprofit organization providing youth with a drug- and alcohol-free environment. Edward A. Massoni, 89, Former Bookkeeper In White Plains WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Edward A. Massoni, of Modena, N.Y., a retired bookkeeper for Safe Flight Instrument Co. in White Plains, died on Oct. 13 at Vassar Brother's Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 89. Massoni was the son of the late Louis and Catherine Briggi Massoni, Edward was born July 31, 1924 in New York City. Edward was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, former member of Knights of Columbus in Croton-on-Hudson and an avid bowler, Yankees fan and woodworker. Norwalk Marching Bears Add Two More Victories NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Marching Bears continued their winning ways as they posted their highest scores of the year in two out-of-state competitions last weekend. On Saturday, the Bears marched to Long Island where they appeared in a New York State Field Band Conference competition hosted by the Walt Whitman High School of Huntington Station. With a score of 90.80 they were able to beat a polished Long Island band, Brentwood, which totaled 88.15.
