Joel Barlow Football Tackles First State Playoff Game On Tuesday REDDING, Conn. – Joel Barlow High School’s football team meets Gilbert/Northwest Regional High in its first trip to the state playoffs on Tuesday. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. at Western Connecticut State University. The Falcons (9-2) are seeded third, while Gilbert (9-2) is seeded sixth. The winner advances to the semifinals on Saturday. Barlow had already qualified for the playoffs before its 46-14 win over Weston on Thanksgiving. The archrival Trojans beat Barlow in 2012 to eliminate the Falcons from the state playoffs. Ridgefield Football Takes On Top-Seeded Newtown In Playoffs RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – The Ridgefield High School football team is taking a four-game winning streak into the Class LL playoffs Tuesday night when it meets top-seeded Newtown. The eighth-seeded Tigers (9-2) will kick off against the Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. in Newtown. The winner advances to the semifinals Saturday. Since losing to Darien on Oct. 26, Ridgefield has posted impressive victories over Norwalk, McMahon, Wilton and Danbury. Pound Ridge 'Santa' Helps Collect Toys For City Children POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge residents are working hard to collect toys for New York City's less fortunate children this Christmas season. City Santas started 23 years ago by three friends, including Pound Ridge resident Benedict Bisordi. Since then, the group has been collecting and distributing toys to shelters, hospitals, and community centers in Bronx, Harlem and Newark. The project started with the three men distributing toys and Happy Meals to 30 needy Bronx children. Children Fill Bags With Food For Operation Hope In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Children in a Gurukul class made sure that 60 local families had good Thanksgiving dinners this year by collecting and donating food and goods to Fairfield’s Operation Hope. Shilpa Bolaki Ahuja holds the weekly Gurukul class, which teaches Hindu children from Fairfield and New Haven counties about their culture and values.
