Former Basketball Star In Westport Earns College Honor WESTPORT, Conn. -- Sean Obi, a former basketball star at Greens Farms Academy in Westport now playing at Rice University, was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week. Obi resided in Greenwich while playing for Greens Farms. Obi was honored for his two solid performances in games last week. He averaged 12.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. He shot 62.5 percent from the field as well. In last Wednesday’s 63-61 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Obi paced the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both marks were season highs. Mistletoe Magic, A Family Festival, Comes To Rye On Sunday RYE, N.Y. – Mistletoe Magic, a family festival hosted by the Rye Chamber of Commerce, ushers in the holiday season on Sunday, Dec. 1. Darien 8th Graders Win League Championship DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien eighth-grade football team defeated Wilton, 26-7, to win the Fairfield County Football League championship Saturday at Darien High School. Darien finished the season 10-1 and cruised through the playoffs, outscoring opponents 61-27. Darien’s defense limited opponents to eight points or less in nine of the 11 games. Darien was coached by Rich Joyce, Joe Evanchick and Kevin Minicus. Joyce also led a Darien team to the eighth grade co-championship last year with another Darien team coach by Jay Hardison. Young Norwalk Wrestlers Hit The Mats For New Season NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Madbull wrestling club increased its growing roster to 40 area youth wrestlers this year as the season kicked off with a rigorous practice schedule of seasoned experienced and brand new youth wrestlers to prepare for the upcoming season.
