Registration Opens For Norwalk Little League NORWALK, Conn. – Online registration has opened for the Norwalk Little League. Players ages 4 to 12 can register online. A registration pizza party is planned for Friday, Jan. 10, from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Batters Box, 327 Main Ave., Norwalk. Players and parents can register, and enjoy free use of the batting cages and eat pizza. Pre-registered players can also hit at the cages. Darien Runner Ready To Race In National Championship DARIEN, Conn. – A year ago, Darien High School runner Alex Ostberg was in the initial stages of coming back from a broken fibula. On Saturday, he will run on cross country’s grandest high school stage in the Foot Locker Championships in San Diego. Qualifying for the Foot Locker race is the culmination of a yearlong journey back from the injury for Ostberg, who has shown promise since middle school while racing for the Wilton Running Club. Westport Runners Sought For 'Marathon On Myrtle' Benefit Run STAMFORD, Conn. – Greenwich-based Family Center is seeking runners for the Marathon On Myrtle benefit run to be held on Dec. 15 in Stamford. Runners from Family Centers, Toyota of Stamford and all over Fairfield County will lace up their sneakers to give local families a holiday to remember. New Canaan 7th Grade Girls Basketball Team Goes 2-2 NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan 7th grade girls travel basketball team had a strong performance as the hosts of the Joe Coppo Basketball Tournament last weekend. Led by coach Jana Jagodzinski, New Canaan went 2-2 against teams from Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, Wilton and Darien. Westport Skaters Help Synchronized Teams Earn 3 Medals STAMFORD, Conn. -- Three teams from Southern Connecticut Synchronized Skating won medals at the Terry Conners Southern Connecticut Synchronized Skating Open last weekend in Stamford. The Shadows (Open Juvenile) and Sprites (Beginner 2) won silver medals and Shimmers (Pre-juvenile) took pewter. Westport 6th Grade Football Player Competes In Regional Tournament FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Middle school football players from Norwalk, Wilton, Westport and New Canaan played for the Connecticut South team in the Football University Regional Championship this past weekend at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J. Darien Boy Helps Wilton Relay Team Set State Swimming Record WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton Wahoos swim team set a state record in the 400-yard medley relay in the 13- and 14-year-old boys division in a Thanksgiving Invitational meet. Wilton’s Robby Giller, Weston’s Stefan Garbee, Ridgefield’s Jack Lynch and Darien’s James Mostofi combined on the record-breaking swim for the Wahoos. Sister Eleanor Keeney, 90, Of Maryknoll In Ossining MARYKNOLL, N.Y. -- Sister Eleanor Keeney died on Nov. 29 after a fall at Maryknoll, N.Y. She was 90 years old and celebrated 65 years as a Maryknoll Sister on Sept. 4 of this year. Maryknoll is located in Ossining. Keeney was born on March 16, 1923, in West Hoboken, N.J. to Mary (Dimmick) Keeney and John Keeney. Eleanor graduated from St. Brendan’s H.S.in 1941 and Jersey City Med. Center-Nursing School with an R.N in 1945. She entered the Maryknoll Sisters Congregation from St. Agatha’s Parish in Brooklyn on Sept. 4, 1948 at the Venard, Pa. Wilton Girls Advance In Prestigious National Track Series WILTION, Conn. -- Runners from Weston and Wilton qualified for the semifinals in the prestigious Colgate Women’s Games in New York. Wilton’s Madison Peraino and Annika Sheehan qualified for the semifinals, along with Weston’s Kathleen Murphy. They run for the Connecticut Elite, which is based in Wilton. The semifinals are scheduled for Dec. 22. In the high school 800 meters, Peraino qualified with a time of 2:30.1 and Sheehan in 2:29.7. This is the first time for each runner competing in the games.
