Putnam Is Blanketed In Snow On Day Before Thanksgiving PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- An unusually early snowstorm came to Putnam County on Wednesday just one day before Thanksgiving. The area became blanketed in snow, although by evening the precipitation resembled a mix including rain. In downtown Carmel, the landscape has been transformed, with a mix of white and gray being visible. Local landmarks, such as Lake Gleneida and the Sybil Luddington statue, are notable examples of this change. A photo gallery of the snowfall before Thanksgiving is attached to this story.

Fire Rips Through Somers Carport, Injures Contractor SOMERS, N.Y. -- A carport in Somers' Heritage Hills condo complex was severely damaged by a fire on Thursday afternoon. The blaze gutted one side of the carport, resulting in a roof collapse. Two vehicles parked inside, a Subaru and a Mercedes, were also damaged. A contractor who had been operating a machine near the building was injured from smoke inhalation, according to Somers Fire Chief George Wahler.
