Commuters Blast Plan To Hike Metro-North Fares; GOP Calls It A Tax Increase STAMFORD, Conn. — The train fare hikes proposed for Metro-North train riders should be derailed, speaker after speaker said at a hearing Wednesday afternoon at UConn-Stamford. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s announced plans last month to hike Metro-North’s fares by 5 percent to cover $37 million in cuts in the state budget for the Department of Transportation. Greenwich State Rep. Burglars Strike Pair Of New Canaan Homes In Broad Daylight NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan was hit by two home burglaries, and a pair of suspects caught on camera by a home security system were able to flee Wednesday afternoon, police said. A Birchwood Avenue homeowner was alerted by his video surveillance system that a person was at his house just before 12:20 p.m., police said. It was at that time that the homeowner watched as the two suspects forced entry into his home through a rear door, police said. The homeowner immediately called police, and officers were dispatched. Norwalk Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting, Assault NORWALK, Conn., -- Police are seeking more information after a man walked into Norwalk Hospital around 1 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police said the victim claimed the shooting occurred in the area of Water Street and Washington Street. A short time later at 1:41 a.m. a victim approached at officer at Norwalk Hospital claiming to have been assaulted on Westport Avenue. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police are asking anyone with information on these two incidents to contact them.

Stratford Neighborhood In Disbelief Over Police Shooting On Quiet Street STRATFORD, Conn. -- Residents of a quiet Lordship neighborhood reacted with shocked amazement after learning a gun-wielding man shot at officers and was wounded by a Stratford Police officer in the exchange early Wednesday morning. State Police: Stratford Officer Shoots Suspect Who Opened Fire On Police STRATFORD, Conn. — A Stratford officer shot a man who had approached police with a handgun and opened fire early Wednesday morning, State Police spokeswoman Kelly Grant said. At about 4:45 a.m., Stratford police responded to the Lordship neighborhood by Russian Beach on reports of man with a gun, Grant said. Trumbull Woman Found With Crack Cocaine In Stolen SUV: Stamford Cops STAMFORD, Conn. -- A woman known to Stamford Police was found sitting in a stolen 2014 Chevrolet Suburban smoking crack cocaine Tuesday morning, police said. Charged with one count each of possession of narcotics and third-degree larceny and three counts of failing to appear in court is Jennifer Fitts, 52, of 99 Unity Road, Trumbull. No One Hurt As Fire Spreads From Kitchen Of Norwalk Home NORWALK, Conn. -- The American Red Cross is helping a family displaced by a noontime fire Tuesday in Norwalk. Fire officials are investigating the blaze that broke out around 12:30 p.m. in the kitchen of 18 Country Club Road before spreading throughout the home, according to The Hour newspaper. No one was reported hurt in the fire. Three adult residents were displaced by the fire, said the local branch of the American Red Cross. Those affected will meet with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The fire remains under investigation.

Bridgeport Man Charged In Stamford Police Pursuit In January STAMFORD — Stamford Police made another arrest in connection with a police pursuit that ended with a crash on Interstate 95 and the recovery of a semi-automatic pistol. Weston Woman Makes Confession As Wilton Police Investigate Shoplifting Ring WILTON, Conn. -- It could be called a case of a mistaken confession. Wilton Police were investigating a July 15 shoplifting incident at the CVS where $2,602 in items had been stolen. 14-Year-Old Wounded In Stamford Drive-By Shooting After Baby Shower Dispute STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 14-year-old was shot and wounded in a drive-by shooting late Saturday after a dispute earlier during a baby shower at the Belltown Fire Department Hall, Stamford Police said.
