Stamford High Picks New Principal In Wake Of Teacher-Student Sex Scandal STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford High School has a new leader after a rocky year that saw the principal and assistant principal arrested and the school system moving to fire them as part of the fallout from a teacher sex scandal. Raymond D. Manka, who is currently an assistant principal at Norwalk High School, will take over the reins at Stamford High School on July 1, it was announced Tuesday. Stamford Police Charge Teen With Hiding Crack In His Pants STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford teen was arrested on charges of having a load of crack cocaine in his pants early Tuesday, police said. Michael J. Catchings, 19, of 1584 North Ave., was charged with possession of narcotics, sale of illegal drugs and failure to wear a seat belt, police said. Police: Drunk N.H. Man With Loaded Handgun Arrested At Gunpoint In Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. -- An intoxicated New Hampshire man who disagrees with Connecticut's gun laws was arrested at gunpoint as he stared at a Selleck Street restaurant Monday night, Stamford Police said. Matthew J. Baran, 24, of 199 Old Springfield Road, Charleston, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon under the influence and second-degree breach of peace. New Canaan Historical Society Gets New Windows On The World NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Old windows that have stood the test of time over the last 250 years now have a fresh new look at the New Canaan Historical Society. Seventeen windows are being installed in the Hanford-Silliman House at the New Canaan Historical Society after they were painstakingly restored by a Middletown-based company. Stamford Agrees To Move Hoyt-Barnum House To Make Way For New Police HQ STAMFORD, Conn. -- The city and the Stamford Historical Society have reached an agreement that is one of the big steps needed in building a new police headquarters. The city of Stamford will purchase the property at 713 Bedford St. and relocate the historic Hoyt-Barnum House to 1508 High Ridge Road, Mayor David Martin announced last week. Stamford Animal Control Report Calls For Shorter Leash On Volunteers STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford task force is recommending tighter restrictions on animal control volunteers and moving the city's animal shelter from 201 Magee Ave. to a city-owned building on Courtland Avenue next to the Stamford Dog Park.
