Filmmaker Records Stamford's Memories In New Documentary STAMFORD, Conn. -- About five years ago Stamford lawyer Joseph Richichi approached filmmaker Michael Macari about interviewing city residents and recording their memories before it was too late. Last year, Richichi was able to see the finished product before he died in December. Now everyone will be able to watch the documentary, "Stamford: A Small Town Remembers," said its creator Macari. Beat The Heat: Stamford Opens Cooling Centers During Heat Wave STAMFORD, Conn. -- As the first extended heat wave of the summer settles in, the City of Stamford opened cooling stations Tuesday to help residents deal with the heat. The designated cooling centers, open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday, are located at: the Stamford Government Center at 888 Washington Blvd., the Fire Department Headquarters at 629 Main St., and the Long Ridge Fire Company at 366 Old Long Ridge Road. Police: Stamford Man Hit Woman With Two Chairs After Dispute Over Music STAMFORD, Conn. -- A man who wanted the party to continue became upset after the host refuse to turn up the music and threw two chairs at her early Sunday at a gathering in Stamford, police said. Francisco Murillo-Veliz, 26, of 39 Sherman St. was charged with first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Police had been called to a residence on Sherman Street at 1:30 a.m. Sunday on a noise complaint, Sgt. Kelly Connelly said. Stamford Man Charged With Assault After Cutting Woman With Kitchen Knives STAMFORD, Conn. -- A violent dispute Thursday between a couple that left a fourth-floor hallway doused in blood resulted in the arrest of a Stamford man, police said. As a result of their investigation, officers arrested and charged Kevin Llewellyn, 22, of Stamford, with second-degree assault, police said. He was held on $75,000 bond. Pacific House Homeless Shelter Celebrates 30th Anniversary In Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Pacific House homeless shelter in Stamford celebrated its 30th anniversary Friday, and one of those people celebrating was a former resident who now works at the shelter. Matthew Monte turned to the shelter after his life had spiraled downward when he and his wife both lost their jobs while working in Florida. He moved back to Fairfield County, but it didn't help as he said he "made a few mistakes" that landed him in jail. Stamford Man Charged With Choking Pregnant Girlfriend During Dispute STAMFORD, Conn. -- A man grabbed his 12-week pregnant girlfriend by the throat and raised her up during an assault July 18 at her Stamford residence, police said. George Bernard Scott, 31, of 590 Colorado Ave., was charged with four counts each of third-degree assault on a pregnant woman and disorderly conduct. He is also charged with one count each of second-degree strangulation and second-degree failure to appear. He turned himself in to police Tuesday and was arrested. Police said there was a dispute between the man and his girlfriend in which he grabbed her by the throat.

New Canaan Man, 48, Arrested On Child Sex Assault Charge NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A 48-year-old New Canaan man has been accused of sexually assaulting a young child, New Canaan police said. A parent went to police to report an incident Monday, police said. The child had made a statement that led the parent to believe the child may have been sexually assaulted by an adult, police said.
