Marine Officers Come To Aid Of Sailboat That Ran Aground Off Southport FAIRFIELD/WESTPORT, Conn. — Marine officers from Fairfield and Westport came to the rescue of a sailboat that ran aground Monday off the coast of Southport. The sailboat ran aground on a sunken island in Long Island Sound, Westport police said.  There were six people on board and two dogs, and were reported to be OK after the rescue, police said.  Officers were challenged by 3-foot waves and "had to utilize a wave runner to get a line in due to rocks," Westport police said. The sea tow was on the scene and assisted as well.

Danbury Police Sergeant Commits Suicide After Barricading Himself In Hotel DANBURY, Conn. — A man who barricaded himself in a Southbury hotel and committed suicide has been identified as a Danbury police sergeant, according to WLAD-AM.  State Police, including the Tactical Unit, responded with the Southbury Police to the Wyndham Hotel at about 12:30 p.m. on a report of a suicidal man, WLAD said.  The man, 38-year old Drew Carlson, a guest of the hotel, was pronounced dead at the scene with a self-inflicted injury, WLAD reported. Holiday Highway Death Reported In Wrong-Way Crash, CT State Police Say Connecticut State Troopers are reporting one highway death this Labor Day holiday weekend after a wrong-way driver on I-91 died in a head-on crash.  The fatal crash occurred at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 91 south near Exit 15 in Wallingford, according to NBC Connecticut.
