Stamford Symphony Plays At Palace Theatre This Weekend STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Stamford Symphony will perform Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Kodály’s Dances of Galanta and Dvo?ák’s Violin Concerto in A minor with violinist Tim Fain on Saturday, April 5, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. Both performances will be at Stamford’s Palace Theatre. George P. Buckhard, 58, Firefighter, Bus Driver In Ossining OSSINING, N.Y. -- George P. Burckhard, formerly of Ossining, died on April 4, surrounded by his family. He was 58. George was the son of Joseph and Mary (nee Hand) Burckhard. He is survived by his wife Debbie; sons Joseph (Lauren) and Charles; daughter Kelly; brothers Gerry (Peggy), Joseph (Nancy) and Kevin (Winnie); sisters Marybeth (Dave) and Barbara (Jeff); sister-in-law Amy; granddaughters Ellen and Ava; and many nieces and nephews. Stamford Native Garry Cobb Running For N.J. Congress Seat STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford native Garry Cobb, a popular sports radio host in Philadelphia, announced this week that he will run for a U.S. Congress seat in New Jersey. Cobb, 57, is a 1975 graduate of Stamford High School who now lives in Cherry Hill, N.J. He was a three-sport star for the Black Knights in baseball, basketball and football. He played football at the University of Southern California and went on to an 11-year career in the NFL, where he played for Dallas, Detroit and Philadelphia. Darien Rower Helps Build Strong Foundation For Norwalk Rowing Team DARIEN, Conn. – Four years ago, Liz Trond started the Connecticut Boat Club in Norwalk to give high school girls a high-level rowing program that could compete with the top teams in the nation. Greenwich Swimmer Sets 2 National Age Group Records STAMFORD, Conn. – Alex Walsh of Old Greenwich set two national age group records and led the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club swim team to the Connecticut Age Group Championships recently at Wesleyan University. Walsh, competing in the girls 12-and-under age group, set national age group records in the 200 breaststroke and 100 individual medley.
