White Plains Cherry Blossom Festival Grows Behind Yoko Battista WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – When Yoko Battista was asked to help with the White Plains Cherry Blossom Festival over 13 years ago, it was a small event that drew a few hundred visitors. She became the lead organizer shortly afterwards, and now the annual spring rite draws more than 5,000 visitors. Battista, a Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Randy Realty, helped move the event to a safer location and added additional attractions to support it's growth. Westport Runners Line Up For Boston Marathon FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – A large contingent of runners from Fairfield County will run in Monday’s Boston Marathon. The world will be watching as the runners step off. At last year's marathon, terrorists exploded two bombs, killing three people. The Boston Marathon, which begins for most runners at 10 a.m. is the oldest marathon in the world. Marathon officials expect 36,000 people, 9,000 more than last year to run in the race. Norwalk's Priceline Grants $10K To Greenwich's Family Centers GREENWICH, Conn. – Norwalk-based Priceline.com awarded Family Centers with a $10,000 grant to help the agency offer preschool scholarships to needy families throughout Fairfield County. Young Norwalk Wrestler Wins Eastern Regional Tournament NORWALK, Conn. -- Jeff Cocchia will represent the Norwalk Mad Bull wrestling club at the Eastern Nationals Wrestling Championships to be held May 3 to 4 at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, Md. Cocchia won the district qualifier a few weeks ago in Willimantic and this month won the Eastern Regional Qualifier in Bethlehem, Pa. Wilton Daisy Troop Helps Animals in Distress After Cat Rescue WILTON, Conn. – Girls from Wilton’s Daisy Girl Scout Troop 50229 helped Wilton-based Animals in Distress after the agency rescued 14 cats recently. Members of the Daisy Troop, under the leadership of Julie Setterlund and Jamie DeVivo, collected food for the cats. Then they all stopped at the shelter to make a donation and visit the cats. Animals in Distress learned the cats were being fed outside by a family, and a neighbor was trying to harm the animals.
