Old Rivals Rumble To Determine Section 1 Division 1 Ice Hockey Title BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Two old rivals met up on the rink at Brewster Ice Arena Sunday, as Suffern and Mamaroneck battled it out in the Section 1 Division 1 championship game. Rockland fans were hoping for a closer game, but it was the Tigers who grabbed a 2-1 lead after one and never looked back, going up 4-1 after two en route to a 5-1 victory. Team captain Will Kirk came up big - scoring a hat trick for Mamaroneck, which advances to a regional game Saturday vs. Section 10's champion. It was Mamaroneck's first sectional title since 2009.

Pelham Picks Up Third Straight Section 1 Division 2 Hockey Title BREWSTER, N.Y. - The Pelham High School ice hockey team took on Rye Town/Harrison Sunday afternoon in front of a packed house at the Brewster Ice Arena in the Section 1 Division 2 ice hockey championship game. It was Pelham that grabbed the early lead, with Stefan Mikiakos scoring on a power play with 1:02 left in the first, and the Pelicans powered on to win their third consecutive sectional title, 5-1. Phil Dutko and Drew Montanarella each had a goal for Pelham, and Doug Harrison had a goal for RTH. Pelham advances to the regionals, with a game vs. a Section 5 opponent set for Saturday.

Brookfield Kids Combine Art With Math To Creat Tesselations At Library BROOKFIELD, Conn. — Children learned to combine math concepts with geometric artwork in a recent program at the Brookfield Library.  The creations — called tessellations — are inspired by the work of artist M.C. Escher, who used math to create his mind-bending works of art. It may sound complicated, but kids in grades 3 to 5 embraced the challenge and created tessellations of their own in the after-school program. Rye Town/Harrison Prevails Over Pearl River In Ice Hockey Playoff RYE, N.Y. - The Section 1 ice hockey playoffs kicked off Sunday, with sixth-seeded Rye Town/Harrison meeting up with No. 11 Pearl River Sunday afternoon at the Rye Playland Ice Rink in a Division 2 game. It was Rye Town/Harrison that walked off with a 7-2 victory, advancing to the next round. Max Picker of Rye had two goals and two assists for Rye Town/Harrison. RTH ripped Pearl River 11-3 earlier in the season.
