Increased State Aid Could Lead To Full Day Kindergarten At North Rockland HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Could full-day kindergarten be finally coming to North Rockland? Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposed budget would increase state aid to districts who adopt full-day kindergarten. The North Rockland school district is one of five districts in the state that does not offer full-day kindergarten. Cuomo's proposal would offer funding the first year and then the state would cover half the costs in the second year. Currently, districts must pay for all of the costs in year two. Rockland Legislature Approves Funding For New Animal Shelter ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Rockland is getting a new animal shelter. County legislators authorized financing for a new animal shelter to house homeless, abandoned and found animals. The Hi-Tor Animal Care Center, run by the non-profit Hi-Tor organization, is currently housed in a building legislators said was outdated and cramped. The new $2.05 million shelter will be built on the same county-owned parcel, with the county chipping in $1.2 million, the shelter contributing $350,000 and the state contributing a $500,000 grant. Mahopac Man No-Shows Court Appearance, Yorktown Police Say A 36-year-old Mahopac man was arrested and charged with bail jumping after police say he failed to show up for a court appearance. James Hosford was charged with bail jumping in the third degree, a Class A misdemeanor after police pulled him over for a vehicle and traffic infraction and discovered an active warrant out for his arrest Wednesday. Man Charged With Felony DWI Following Crash In Yorktown A 38-year-old Cortlandt Manor man was charged with felony DWI after a two-car accident Saturday afternoon at Old Crompond Road and Pine Grove Court. Giovanni Loaiza was charged with a felony because he had a prior driving while intoxicated conviction in the last 10 years. He was also charged with driving with a revoked license, a Class E felony and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test. Loaiza was transported to Westchester County Jail and is due back in court on Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.

Mahopac Resident Named New Schools Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo is the new man in charge of Mahopac's public schools. DiCarlo, who lives in Mahopac, was given a five-year contract by the Mahopac Board of Education at Thursday's meeting to be the district's new superintendent. DiCarlo, who serves as principal of Trinity Elementary School in New Rochelle, starts on Feb. 26. Cynthia Nixon Says 'Maybe' To Challenging Cuomo Cynthia Nixon, known for playing Miranda on the HBO series "Sex and the City," is now giving a definite "Maybe" regarding a possible primary challenge to New York Gov.
