6 Charged In Luxury NJ Car Thefts: Prosecutor Five men and one juvenile were recently arrested and charged with numerous residential and vehicle burglaries in Somerset County, authorities said. In October 2023, broke into a Bernards Township home through a rear sliding window and stole a 2023 Mercedes Benz, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald announced. East Orange Man Killed In Shooting: Prosecutor A 33-year-old East Orange man was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, July 26, authorities said. Around 8 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of South Munn Avenue and found Kenyaitte Crute shot, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi said. Crute was transported to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Stephens and Bindi said. Jersey City Man Gets 17 Years For Strangling Girlfriend: Prosecutor A 28-year-old Jersey City man was sentenced on Thursday, July 25 to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to strangling a 27-year-old woman in 2021, authorities said. Two Arrested After Driving With Stolen License Plate: Secaucus PD Two Paterson residents were arrested on Wednesday, July 24, after police spotted them driving a car with a stolen license plate in Secaucus, authorities said. Woman Sexually Assaulted In West New York: Prosecutor A 40-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in West New York on Saturday, July 27, authorities said. At 1:30 a.m., the woman encountered a man at Hudson Avenue and 51st Street, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The woman said the man grabbed her by the hair and sexually assaulted her, Suarez said. NJ Electrical Engineer Nic Fink Breaks 120-Year Record At Paris Olympics Nic Fink, a Morristown native, is an electrical engineer. Oh, and now he's an Olympic medalist. Fink, 31, won the silver medal in the men's 100m breaststroke on Sunday, July 28, missing out on the gold in a photo finish. Fink is the oldest American to be a first-time medal winner in swimming since the 1904 Olympics. And he does that all that while balancing a full-time job as an assistant project manager for an engineering firm in Atlanta, GA. Former CFO From Westfield Gets Five Years For Stealing Millions From Law Firm: AG A 61-year-old Westfield resident was sentenced on Friday, July 26, to five years in prison after he admitted to embezzling over $1.5 million from the law firm where he worked as chief financial officer, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said.
