Stamford Firefighters Extinguish Burning Car Atop Pile Of Leaves STAMFORD, Conn. -- A car parked on a pile of leaves caught fire late Thursday afternoon in Stamford, firefighters said. At 5 p.m. firefighters responded to the fire near 37 Wood Ridge Drive South. Upon arrival, Stamford firefighters from Engine 8 and Engine 9 found a sedan parked on top of a very large pile of leaves along the side of the roadway.  The fire had already engulfed the engine compartment and undercarriage of the vehicle.
