Westport Announces Formation Of New Downtown Steering Committee WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe has created a new steering committee to take over management of the Downtown Westport Master Planning Project. The project was previously approved by the Board of Finance, the Representative Town Meeting and the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Downtown Steering Committee, which will succeed the former Downtown 2020 Committee, will provide guidance and technical assistance to RBA, the consultant team contracted to assist Westport in developing the master plan. Westport Baseball, Softball Program Plans Meeting For Parents WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport Baseball and Softball is inviting parents to meet board members and commissioners and to learn more about its Spring 2014 programs in a parent meeting. The Parent Informational Meeting will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Staples High School cafeteria. Parents will learn about baseball and softball programs, travel programs, Babe Ruth and American Legion. After an introduction, there will be breakout sessions with league officials. Norwalk's Xtreme Cheer Teams Strike Gold In Providence NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk-based Xtreme Cheer won two events last weekend at the Platinum Athletic Championships in Providence, R.I. The meet featured teams from the United States and Canada. Xtreme added a second, third and sixth in one of competitive cheerleading's top events. The International Open Coed level 5 Inferno won first place for Xtreme. The team is for ages 14 and up and includes all of the Xtreme coaches.
