Bedford Superintendent Jere Hochman To Resign, Assume State Education Post BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford Central Schools Superintendent Jere Hochman will resign his post after being named state deputy secretary of education, the school district announced. Hochman, who has been Bedford Central's chief administrator since 2008, is scheduled to end his tenure on Nov. 6. The deputy job is a position in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration, the district noted. Chappaqua Superintendent: Former Teacher's Sex Charges 'Deeply Troubling' CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Chappaqua Schools Superintendent Lyn McKay reacted to the arraignment of former Horace Greeley High School teacher Christopher Schraufnagel on sex-abuse charges. In a letter to parents, McKay calls the charges "deeply troubling for our entire school community." Ex-Westchester Drama Teacher Accused Of Sexual Contact With 3 Students CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Former Horace Greeley High School teacher Christopher Schraufnagel was arraigned on Wednesday and charged with multiple counts of sex abuse, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's office. Schraufnagel, who took an abrupt leave of absence in June and resigned in early September, is accused of inappropriate sexual contact with three underage students, with allegations going as far back as 2011. Millwood Firefighters Bid Farewell To Old Station MILLWOOD, N.Y. -- After more than 90 years of service, the Millwood Fire Company's Station No. 1 is closing, making way for a brand-new building near by. A farewell ceremony was held on Saturday morning for the building - the event was officially called a decommissioning – where the structure was remembered fondly. “It has served Millwood well for more than 90 years, but nothing is forever,” Millwood Fire District Commissioner Alan Schapiro said. Solarize Somers-New Castle To Launch Next Week CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- A joint venture between community members in the towns of New Castle and Somers is set to launch at a meeting next week. The meeting, which will involve the launch of Solarize Somers-New Castle, is scheduled for Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.. It will be held at New Castle Town Hall in Chappaqua. Mount Kisco Rotary Holding Halloween Pancake Breakfast MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- The Mount Kisco Rotary Club will be holding a pancake breakfast this Halloween. The breakfast is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will be held at the Mount Kisco Holiday Inn. In keeping with the holiday, the Rotary is encourages children to attend in costumes. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for kids and $7 for senior citizens. Proceeds, according to the Rotary, will benefit the Appalachian Service Project. Katonah Halloween Parade Returns With Town Funding KATONAH, N.Y. -- The annual Katonah Halloween Parade is set to kick off on Sunday, but this year the funding mix for the occasion has changed. Susan Williams, a board member of the Katonah Village Improvement Society (KVIS), told Daily Voice that the town of Bedford is serving as a co-sponsor with KVIS. Chappaqua's Gerry Golub, Prolific Local Volunteer, Dies Of Cancer CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Chappaqua resident Gerry Golub, whose presence on three local boards made him a prolific volunteer, has died of cancer, the town of New Castle announced. Golub sat on the New Castle Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), the Chappaqua Library Board and on the New Castle Fire District. No. 1 Board of Fire Commissioners, which governs the Chappaqua Fire Department. Golub was appointed to the ZBA and elected to his other two seats.
