Invasive Mile-a-minute Plant Removed From Area Near Trail In Monroe MONROE, Conn. — A small patch of the invasive mile-a-minute vine has been removed from an area bordering the Rails-to-Trails hiking path in Monroe near the No. 3 mile-marker. Environmentalists warn that the weed out-competes native plants and is a threat to forest regeneration. Funeral Services Set For Fairfield Warde Graduate, 40, Slain In Virginia FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Services have been scheduled for Dawn Marie Meade, a native of Norwalk and a graduate of Fairfield Warde High School who died Friday, Sept. 22. She was 40. She was murdered in a hit-and-run in Louisa, Va. "Dawn had a contagious laugh that could turn any frown. She loved acting silly with her friends and family, but mostly enjoyed spreading joy and warmth wherever she went," said her obituary. State Police Bust Man With Fully Loaded Gun During I-84 Traffic Stop DANBURY, Conn. — A man from Massachusetts was busted with an illegal and fully loaded handgun when stopped in a speeding car on I-84 in Danbury on Sunday, state police said. 1 Victim Seriously Injured In Stabbing Near Dunkin' Donuts In Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. — One person suffered serious injuries in a stabbing near the Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street late Saturday afternoon, according to NBC Connecticut. At Least 10 Displaced By Fire In Bridgeport Apartment Building BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — At least 10 people were burned out of their home after a fire spread through a three-unit apartment building in Bridgeport early Saturday, the Connecticut Post said. The Bridgeport Fire Department responded at about 1:40 a.m. to Lee Street as the blaze spread to three neighboring building, the Post said. Invasive Shrub Linked To Rising Rates Of Ticks, Lyme Disease In Connecticut If you have Japanese barberry bushes planted in your yard, it may be time to rethink your landscaping. The shrub, which is considered an invasive plant in Connecticut, is being blamed for a rise in the tick population in the state, which in turn is causing an increase in cases of Lyme disease here.
