Somers Board Of Ed Member Wins Long-Awaited Game Patent SOMERS, N.Y. – Dr. Ifay Chang of Somers waited 11 years to get a patent from the United States government for a word game he developed more than 25 years ago. Now, he believes the best is yet to come. “I was persistent,’’ said Chang, who is a member of the Somers Board of Education. “If I was depending on this patent to make a living, I’d be finished.” Chang’s game, Scrammble, is a word game similar to Scrabble except it is based on an alphabet  scrambling process. Darien 8th Grade Football Team Reaches Title Game DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien White eighth-grade football team defeated Fairfield, 21-12, in the semifinals of the Fairfield County Football League playoffs and will play for the championship Saturday. Darien will meet Wilton White in Saturday’s title game. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Darien High School. Darien defeated Wilton White, 20-0, on Sept. 22. Darien, coached by Rich Joyce, is 9-1 on the season. Its only loss was to Westport North. Wilton defeated Westport, 24-16, in the other semifinal to earn the spot to play for the league title. Swimmers Head For Norwalk As Zeus Hosts Large Invitational Meet NORWALK, Conn. – The Zeus Swim Team in Norwalk will host the 10th annual Betty Philcox meet at Norwalk High School beginning Friday and running through Sunday. The meet will include nearly 400 swimmers from 17 teams. The meet is named after Betty Philcox, who started the Norwalk Aquatic Club nearly 60 years ago at the Norwalk YMCA. Young Fairfield Runners Run Well At Junior Olympic Race FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Tomlinson Running Club, with students from Tomlinson Middle School and Fairfield Woods Middle School, were victorious in one age group division title and took second in another division at Sunday’s Connecticut Junior Olympic Cross Country championships in Litchfield on Sunday, Nov. 17. The Fairfield schools combined to bring 19 runners to the races, and many of them qualified for this weekend’s regional championships in Wappinger Falls, N.Y.
