Stamford's Springdale Little League Holds Tryouts On Saturday STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford's Springdale Little League will hold tryouts for its first-time and returning non-Majors players, ages 8 to 12, on Saturday, March 1, at the Springdale Elementary School gymnasium on Hope Street. The gym is behind the baseball field. The tryout schedule, based on how old the child is on May 1, 2014, is: 12 and 11-year-olds – 9 to 10 a.m. 10-year-olds – 10 to 11:15 a.m. 9-year-olds – 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. 8-year-olds – 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. All children who have registered will be placed on a team. Purchase College Alumni Played Key Roles In Opening Ceremonies At Olympics PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Alumni from Purchase College worked on designing the highly acclaimed opening ceremony at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. Rob Bissinger, a 1991 graduate, served as art director and Anita La Scala, from the class of 2005, was the assistant art director for the ceremony, a nearly three-hour extravaganza celebrating the history of Russia. LWV Pushes For Transparency In Connecticut Legislature FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The League of Women Voters of Connecticut wants to review transparency in the state legislative process and recommends changes that will hopefully enhance efficiency and integrity, it said in a recent press release. Katonah's Harvey Boys Basketball Loses In League Semifinals KATONAH, N.Y. -- The Harvey School's boys basketball team found itself in an early first half deficit that proved too much to overcome as Forman School defeated the Cavaliers 60-52, on Thursday, Feb. 20, eliminating them from the Housatonic Valley Athletic League playoffs in the semifinal round.
