Westhill 3-Sport Standout Commits To Monmouth, Will Throw Javelin STAMFORD, Conn. – Last year at this time, Westhill High School’s Steph Roones had not unleashed a javelin in competition. On Friday, the senior three-sport standout from Stamford committed to Division I Monmouth University to compete in the event for the next four years at the New Jersey college. Roones thought one year ago she might play basketball, volleyball or both on the Division III level. Greenwich High Basketball Star Named State's Gatorade Player Of The Year GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich High School’s Alex Wolf was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for boys basketball, it was announced Friday. Wolf averaged 16.5 points and 13.6 rebounds for the Cardinals, who reached the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship game. The Cardinals’season ended Wednesday with a loss to Fairfield Prep in the Class LL semifinals. Wolf, who will attend Dartmouth, has a 4.0 GPA. New Canaan Charity CEO Ranks Among 'World's Greatest Leaders' By Fortune NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s Kathy Giusti, the CEO of the Norwalk-based Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, has been named one of “The World’s Greatest 50 Leaders” by Fortune Magazine. Giusti was 19th on the list, according to the Fortune report. Pope Francis was selected No. 1. Other people in the Top 20 include Warren Buffet, Derek Jeter and Michael Bloomberg. Wrestler From Norwalk Mad Bulls Grabs New England Championship NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Mad Bulls Youth wrestling team crowned its first-ever New England champion last weekend as Roton Middle School's Jeff Cocchia bested the field in the 140-pound weight class. The tournament was held in North Andover, Mass. Cocchia is a sixth-grader. His brother, Artie, also wrestled in New Englands and finished among the top eight. Jeff Cocchia dominated his weight class with an early first round pin followed by a 9-1 decision in the semifinals. Stamford Youngtimers Concludes Girls Basketball Season With Super Sunday STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Stamford Youngtimers Basketball League held its annual “Super Sunday” activities at Westhill High School on March 9. “Super Sunday” features the House League Championship Games as well as skills competitions in an effort to celebrate the entire winter season. Darien Hockey Team Aims To End Long State Title Drought DARIEN, Conn. – Darien High School’s boys hockey team has not skated off with state championship trophy since 1969. On Saturday, the Blue Wave will get a chance to end that 45-year drought. Darien (19-3-1) will meet Fairfield Prep at 2 p.m. at Ingalls Rink at Yale University in New Haven. Fairfield Caddie Wins Full College Scholarship From Golf Group FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Bujar Rexhepaj of Fairfield, a senior at Fairfield Warde High School and a golf caddie at Brooklawn Country Club, has been awarded the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. Ridgefield's Tucker West Wins Singles Title In U.S. Luge Event RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off his first Winter Olympics, Ridgefield’s Tucker West won the men’s title in USA Luge’s National Seeding Races last weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y. The results will help determine the composition of the 2014-15 national team. West won Saturday’s singles race in 1:45.378, just ahead of Aidan Kelly, who finished 0.519 seconds behind West.
