Putnam Goes To Dogs For Kennel Club Competition CARMEL, N.Y. - Talk about a Dog Day Afternoon. With temperatures hovering in the mid-90s, the Putnam Kennel Club staged two all-breed AKC shows, running Friday and Saturday at Putnam Veterans Memorial Park. Dog owners did everything they could to keep their prized pups cool - from spraying them with water, to wrapping them in wet towels and offering plenty of water. The two-day show - 500 dogs were entered Friday, and 600 competed Saturday - included competition for conformation, obedience and rally trials. Pound Ridge Takes First At Northern Westchester D-iii Diving Championships POUND RIDGE, N.Y. - The Northern Westchester Swim Conference held its Division III diving championships Wednesday afternoon at the pool at Pound Ridge Town Park. Pound Ridge took first place, over Pocantico Hills (Sleepy Hollow) and Torview (Ossining) with three first-place divers. Pound Ridge's 13U diver, Auggie Hibler, and 18U diver Leni Hibler, both broke pool records. Rainer Hibler won the girls 18U category, and Jessica Cowles of Pocantico won the 13U girls event. All first-place divers were set to advance to All-Stars Thursday at Pocantico Hills in Sleepy Hollow.

Police Dish Out 25 Tickets In Sprain Parkway Speeding Detail WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- State police issues 25 tickets during a speed enforcement detail on the Sprain Brook Parkway on Tuesday in Westchester.The detail was between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., state police said. A total of 21 tickets were issued for speeding, three for other violations and one for a seat-belt violation.

Appalachian Trail Hikers Find Peace, Solitude During Time In Wilderness STORMVILLE, N.Y. -- On a day where the thermometer flirted with 100 degrees (ok, it was only 96), groups of exhausted-looking hikers continued to make their way along the Adirondack Trail in Dutchess County. Westchester Motorcycle Clubs Rally For Brothers Who Need Heart Transplants Motorcycle clubs from all over Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield Counties came out in support of the Yonkers MC Club's Heart With Your Heart event Sunday at Brewster's Bull and Barrel Brewery Restaurant. The event - which included a mass motorcycle caravan from Cortlandt Manor to Brewster - was to benefit Yorktown's DiCarlo family, which includes three brothers who all needed heart transplants. I-84 Crash Causes Stop-And-Go Delays; Backups On Route 202 A crash on westbound I-84 caused delays on the New York/Connecticut border Tuesday.The 7:45 a.m. incident occurred at Exit 21 (Route 121) with stop-and-go backups to Saw Mill Road (Exit 1). An accident on eastbound Route 202 caused delays in Crompond with stop-and-go delays to the Bear Mountain State Parkway. A bit farther north, there is alternating traffic on Route 52 at Barrett Hill Road in Lake Carmel because of a fallen tree. Rowers Battle On Hudson To Fight Cancer At Poughkeepsie Dragon Boat Races POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - On one of the hottest days of the summer, area rowers converged on the Hudson River Rowing Association in Poughkeepsie Saturday for the third Dragon Boat Races and Festival.
