Stamford Police Honor Fallen Boy With 20th Free Bike Helmet Giveaway STAMFORD, Conn. - The Stamford Police Association held its 20th Timothy Coppola bicycle helmet giveaway Saturday, handing out about 1,000 helmets to children in Stamford to promote safety. Timothy -- the son of a retired Stamford police officer -- was hit by a car while riding his bike without a helmet over 20 years ago. He died 22 months later at the age of 10. Walkers Hit Their Stride To Support Norwalk Hospital's Cancer Center NORWALK, Conn. -- Crowds turned out for a walk and a 5K to benefit Norwalk Hospital's Whittingham Cancer Center under cool but sunny skies Saturday at Calf Pasture Beach in East Norwalk. The event's proceeds go directly to the Whittingham Cancer Center to fund extensive support services for patients, research and clinical trials, prevention and screenings, and a new cancer center that will open this fall at Norwalk Hospital.  The 5K -- dubbed Sally's Run -- was started in 2011. It was named in memory of Sally Kalin, who died after an eight-year battle with cancer.
