New Rochelle's Little League Celebrates Opening Day NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- New Rochelle Little League held its opening day ceremonies Sunday in a festive day at Tocci Field in which Mayor Noam Bramson and others spoke and in which former 25-year league president Rich Perdue was honored. "It was a terrific day," Yankees coach Josh Duitz said. "The kids really enjoyed it. We had the opening ceremonies prior to the game, and it was all really nice, they did an excellent job. Stamford Police Honor Fallen Boy With 20th Free Bike Helmet Giveaway STAMFORD, Conn. - The Stamford Police Association held its 20th Timothy Coppola bicycle helmet giveaway Saturday, handing out about 1,000 helmets to children in Stamford to promote safety. Timothy -- the son of a retired Stamford police officer -- was hit by a car while riding his bike without a helmet over 20 years ago. He died 22 months later at the age of 10. The police association quickly moved to start the program -- and continues it two decades later -- working to get helmets to families that can't afford them. Play Ball: Darien Little League Families Celebrate Opening Day DARIEN, Conn. - Darien Little League held its opening day festivities Sunday, with kids ranging in age from kindergarten through 12 coming out to enjoy a parade, free hot dogs, and spring kickoff ceremonies at McGuane Park. Walkers Hit Their Stride To Support Norwalk Hospital's Cancer Center NORWALK, Conn. -- Crowds turned out for a walk and a 5K to benefit Norwalk Hospital's Whittingham Cancer Center under cool but sunny skies Saturday at Calf Pasture Beach in East Norwalk. The event's proceeds go directly to the Whittingham Cancer Center to fund extensive support services for patients, research and clinical trials, prevention and screenings, and a new cancer center that will open this fall at Norwalk Hospital. The 5K -- dubbed Sally's Run -- was started in 2011. It was named in memory of Sally Kalin, who died after an eight-year battle with cancer.

Housatonic Students Pitch In For Day of Community Service In Bridgeport BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Students from Housatonic Community College turned out Friday for the college’s fourth annual HCC Day of Community Service to help out others in Bridgeport. Students started the day at Beacon Hall at Housatonic Community College before traveling to LifeBridge Community Services in Bridgeport. Funeral Services Held In Rye For 20-Year-Old Marisa Curlen RYE, N.Y. -- Funeral services were held on Saturday for Marisa Gail Curlen, the 2013 graduate of Rye High School who was found unresponsive in her Virginia college sorority bedroom last week. An investigation is under way in the cause of death for Curlen, the 20-year-old daughter of Julie A. Curlen of Rye and Steve Curlen of New Rochelle. Local Businesses Roll Out Welcome Mat At Business, Home Expo MAHOPAC, N.Y. - More than 100 local businesses greeted the public Sunday at the Business and Home Expo at Mahopac High School. Businesses from Putnam, Westchester and beyond showed their wares, offered handouts and snacks, and told everyone within earshot everything they could about their trade.
